The Bachelor has been handing out roses (and heartbreak) for 16 seasons, and in all that time there hasn’t been a single African-American Bachelor or Bachelorette. But all of that could change is Portland-based sportscaster Lamar Hurd has anything to say about it.
Hurd’s assistant Tammy, who says that her boss is the “perfect” guy, has put together a Bachelor audition tape for Hurd that highlights his skills on the basketball court (he used to play for OSU), his softer side (he coaches children’s basketball teams in his spare time), his sense of humor (he chomps on popcorn while he calls games), and, oh yeah, his rock hard abs and megawatt smile.
Bachelor producers say that they’re up for finally injecting more diversity into the show. Creator Mike Fleiss told EW.com last year that he and producers “always want to cast for ethnic diversity, it’s just that for whatever reason, they don’t come forward. I wish they would.â€
