You’ve done it, I’ve done it, we’ve all done it. You flip through a magazine gazing at all the perfect bodies sprawled out across the pages and, for a second, you wish that you looked slimmer, taller, tanner, and more ripped. Of course, you know the actors, actresses, and models featured in the photos are primped, prodded, and Photoshopped but, in the moment, you can’t help but feel a little less than perfect.
Well, never fear, Victoria Secret‘s models are here and they are speaking out against Photoshop and the less than attainable standards of beauty created by digitally-enhanced advertisements and fashion spreads. Erin Heatherton, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s current girlfriend, was more than a little peeved when she saw a recent photo spread that featured her but not her freckles.
“I feel like it looks like someone else,†she admitted. “I guess it’s not fair. It’s a bittersweet story. You look better, but it’s a lie.â€
Heatherton isn’t the only model commenting on the crazy amount of photoshopping that occurs in the business. After her leg was clearly chopped out of a Vogue China fashion editorial (shown below), model Doutzen Kroes had this to say: “I just saw this. Maybe it’s two legs together? Maybe it’s the pose? I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ I think Photoshopping is OK until something like that happens. You don’t want to lose one of your limbs.â€
Clearly photo-chopping helps models get a leg up , or in this case, a leg down on the competition. But, do you think this type of blatant Photoshopping is taking things too far?
