On Monday, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama spent part of their day giving honor to ex-president George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara Bush, at a White House ceremony in support of Bush’s volunteer program, Points of Light.
The White House describes Points of Life as the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service that mobilizes millions of people to take action that is changing the world and recognizes individuals who are making a difference through service and volunteerism.
The Points of Light Foundation was created in 1990 as a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. to promote the spirit of volunteerism described by U.S. President George H.W. Bush in his 1989 inaugural address. During his speech on Monday, Obama said that ex-president George H.W. Bush had begun a tradition twenty-three years ago when he started the Points of Light Program.
