In perhaps the most gruesome beanings in the history of baseball, Tony Conigliaro of the Boston Red Sox is struck in the eye by a pitch from Jack Hamilton of the California Angels at Fenway Park. Conigliaro who had 20 home runs and 67 RBI in 95 games would miss the rest of the season and all of 1968. He would return in 1969 with a strong season, but lingering vision problems would cut short his career
