As arguably the most popular rapper to ever live, Tupac Shakur’s influence has often extended into worlds that you might not necessarily consider. In a recent interview on The Steve Austin Show, former WWF and WCW champion Kevin Nash explained that Tupac Shakur has a significant impact on the world of professional wrestling.
“We’re throwing gangster rap into [the nWo] and Terry (Hulk Hogan) is old school.” Nash told Austin.”He wants the ‘brother, brother, brother,’ and we’re like, ‘naw, that ain’t hip.’ That ain’t what’s working. Just talk. You gotta lose the wrestling persona. You gotta be chill. Hell, I showed up with a Tupac bandana on backwards and someone looked at me and said ‘what the hell is that?! Are you Aunt Jemima?’ No, man, this is the way Tupac wears it. Look around, man. This in the middle of East Coast/West Coast rap wars. We’re trying to crossover!”
If you are not familiar, the nWo was an extremely popular professional wrestling storyline that helped ignite the mainstream popularity of professional wrestling in the 1990s. It famously involved historical good guy, Hulk Hogan, turning evil and joining an invasion of ex-WWF wrestlers as they attempted to takeover WCW in the mid-1990s.
