Black Panther won’t hit theaters until next February, but Marvel fans are already in formation.

At a surprise open house Monday evening at Marvel Studios in Burbank, California, Marvel stunned journalists with the first ever seen footage from Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. Though we know Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa is at the center of this franchise, journalists who were present at the open house have said that the ladies of Wakanda are a major force as well.

The Dora Milaje are the Wakandan King’s all-female bodyguard. Remember we saw Florence Kasumba’s Ayo in Captain America: Civil War when she told Black Widow, “move or you will be moved.” The Dora Milaje also consists of Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia and Danai Gurira’s Okoye. T’Challa’s teenager sister Shuri, played by Letitia Wright also has a starring role. And another major female cast member is Angela Bassett as T’Challa’s mama.

Besides the women warriors, what else went down in the Black Panther sizzle reel? According to io9, the reel explained Wakanda.

It included some truly spectacular concept art and images that go by so fast, but what did stand out was the bustling technology of Wakanda: Black jet planes and huge buildings that look modern, but also have a very African feel. There was a shot of what appeared to be two Black Panthers fighting in some kind of underground area. And just beautifully vibrant costumes on everyone, but especially the Dora Milaje. There was a scene in which T’Challa appeared to be fighting someone on a rhino, and also a black arm gauntlet that looks like a panther with the mouth opening at the fist.

We then saw what was likely part of that coronation. It took place at Warrior Falls and featured T’Challa walking down a ramp in front of a cliff lined with all kinds of people, where Forest Whitaker’s character introduced him to the crowd. Boseman didn’t have a shirt on so you could see a huge tattoo going around his back and onto his chest.

We’re just hoping Marvel will take us out of our misery and release this gorgeously descriptive sizzle real online. Since the movie is only halfway filmed, we probably won’t get a trailer until sometime in the fall. Until then, we’ll just have to use our imaginations.

Black Panther is set shortly after the tumultuous events of Captan America: Civil War. T’Challa returns home to his native Wakanda to bury his father and take his place as the Wakandan King. However, when his enemies arise, he must use both his power on the throne as well as his alter ego Black Panther to set things right.

Michael B. Jordan, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, Winston Duke, Sterling K. Brown and John Kani also star in the film.

Black Panther will claw its way into theaters February 16, 2018.
