Her outlook on beauty:

“‘Less is more’ is my approach to everyday beauty. While I admire more glam and done up looks, I personally prefer very simple and natural beauty looks on myself for everyday! I invest more into skincare than I do on makeup because I believe that good skin is the core of everything”.

How she conquered less-than-perfect skin:

“I’ve always had problematic skin since I was in my teens. I finally got tired of my skin problems, so I started really researching the science behind skincare and found out why nothing was working on my skin. I learned a lot about specific ingredients, and I’ve gone through an entire trial & error period and found out which ingredients my skin didn’t like. A year later, I know exactly what skin does and does not like. I now purchase products based on that information!”

The most important at-home treatments in her routine:

“We’re always told we need to exfoliate our skin, but I didn’t really know what that meant until I started researching it and learned how it benefits acne and hyperpigmentation”.

The daily skincare routine that works:

“In the morning, if my skin feels super dry, I’ll throw on a hydrating essence, sheet mask, and maybe a hydrating serum. At night, if my skin feel super oily, I’ll wash my face, tone, use a BHA, then moisturize. Sometimes my routine is 8 steps, sometimes my routine is 3 steps. It’s all contingent upon how my skin is doing at that particular time”.

The products she can’t go without:

“I love both the CosRx AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid ($18) for hyper-pigmentation and the CosRx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid ($16) for acne & clearing out pores. I also really like the Serious Skincare Glycolic Gommage mask ($40.50) for an all-over exfoliation. As far as ingredients go, my skin tends to really like tea tree oil, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, and tretinoin”

How she healed her acne scars:

“To keep dark spots at bay, I like to use AHA’s like the Serious Skincare Glycolic Gommage ($40.50), vitamin C serums like Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drops ($32), and my dermatologist also created a cream for my hyper-pigmentation which contains the ingredients tretinoin and hydroquinone. I only use this on spots that are very dark”.

Her self-care practice:

“I write in a journal every morning for an entire hour. I take this time to check in with myself. I write how I’m feeling, how my relationships with family and friends are going, how my anxiety is that morning, and sometimes I even use that time to plan out my day. It really helps in relieving my anxiety, and the chamomile tea that I drink while writing doesn’t hurt either!”

Her diet solutions for clear skin:

“Drinking water is obviously very important, but I tend to eat pretty healthily as well. A whole foods, plant-based diet (I still consume animal products but in very minimal amounts) that is nutrient-dense not only helps my skin and hair look good, but I also just feel good. My anxiety gets handled, I feel fresh and energetic, and that’s proof to me that whatever goes into your body is just as important as what goes on your body”.

Her one beauty rule:

“Create a signature beauty look! It becomes a part of your personal brand, but also makes shopping for makeup and getting ready in the morning easier. I know that I will always look good in my signature beauty look because I’ve perfected it and have done it over and over again”.
